I mounted it on a piece of pressure treated 4x4 as pictured. The winch works a bit laggardly but it will pull each car up onto the trailer without challenge. I added a red & black junction block power post ( 3/8") so I can easily attach it to a portable car battery via jumper cables. Note that if you are not in your teens... you will need magnifying glasses to figure out the wiring diagram. The remote switch (~8' long) has an easy connect/disconnect but it also has a separate and shorter line (~4' long) that needs to be connected to the red terminal (positive) - otherwise the winch will be inoperable.
